What would the 2005 event look like ideally? What des good look like? If we have some ideals then we could work backwards to see wht would need to happen in order to make the ideals happen. What is realistic and how much can we cram in.

I guess what i am looking for is what are the targets to be reached by next year both for the event and for projects that could be announced at the event.

And, targets could filter down to projects as well to ensure that the collective targets are met?

I just want to throw in a few ideas as to what good might look like but of course the consencus might be totally different to these:

  • It should be televised live
  • Some well known names speaking
  • Very focused - if it is for th epublic it must have a solid direction/feel to it
  • A series of major announcements - projects or successes of the last year
  • Focus groups on active successful projects
  • A list of big name organisations / governments affiliated to BeTheChange
  • Massive funding for projects in place
  • Number of participants - very big or very focused?
  • Big name entertainment
  • Simultaenous (or close together) in different countries around the world
  • Membership announcement - tens of thousands affiliated?

I wonder how we could pattern you affiliated members concept. I would like to make sure we dont dilute the core

One initiation method could be to ask for a donation among new members (taking it that those who paid to attend the meetings had already qualified)

Another initiation method might be based on a quiz- perhaps of the contexts at this forum and the associated wiki. The questions could be chosen to highlight some of the values and context that most unite us. In fact, trying to profile these might be a good exercise anyway. What is it you associate first when someone now says BeTheChange. Some of my associations:

-love all people of all races
-authenticity of contexts you ask people to spend networking time on with you (bethechange you ask others to commit); also be savvy about how much personal risk some projects could lead to; anticipate what your change would mean in terms of possible opposition. ( I believe we need a risk advisory board looking at projects as they start going from idea to reality-making)
-systemic understanding of connectivity
-desire to find projects that either quickly get delisted or lead to action, ideally action that can be openly adopted in many localities once the idea has been tested and seen to work somewhere
-to be one of the most collaborative social networks which requires high trust of each other, and comes back to why some simple initiation method may matter

Incidentally, I believe there are some key segments we should be quickly bridging with. For example, wouldnt bethechange have a natural university student wing albeit one that needs to help profile maturity of activist's diversity - I mention this because I feel the first 350 necessarily didnt involve as many younger people as I (a fifty year old!) would like to have seen. I have at least 2 reasons for believing that Imperial Colege is one of the first partnering university unions we might try to link with if we are ever testing that route. I don know who at BTC actually makes decisions on membership affiliation recruitemnt- hopefully we will be informed quite soon

awareness!

Whatever emerged should be published across the glob though print and electronic media in almost every country plus workshops and seminar at local level.

It could be left to country reps to be local events by the target people help themselves?
