Was asked to think of a theme for this.
Was thinking of the theme that I want to be based round Heroes, Upstarts & Heretics as its all about people through history to the present day who have had to be all three to be the change themselves and change the course of history. Ghandi himself was regarded as heretic.
Can you let me know what you think of this,
cheers
Kerry

I think it is a great idea. Heretics Upstarts and Heros all have to take a difficult decision about whether they are going to Be the Change.

Colin can you stick me on the email list. I am still bouncing around ideas as to who is what and why so hopefully be getting a list of who to ask to come.
Was also thinking about your views about having a world cafe at the start and at the end and maybe having a party at the end of it, so that way people could come along who hadnt been at the conference and have a good time and get to know the ethos behind it.

As I dont subscribe to any religion whatsoever I was sent this list of new commandments which I have been living by anyway.
10 New Commandments
1. People are illogical, unreasonable and self-centered (including me). Love them anyway.
2. If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives. Do good anyway.
3. If you are successful, you win false friends and true enemies. Succeed anyway.
4. The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow. Do good anyway.
5. Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable. Be honest and frank anyway.
6. The biggest people with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the littlest people with the littlest ideas. Think big anyway.
7. People favour underdogs, but follow only top dogs. Fight for a few underdogs anyway.
8. What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight. Build anyway.
9. People really need help, but may attack you if you do help them. Help them anyway.
10. Give the world the best you have and you will get kicked in the teeth. Give the best you have anyway.

I've been working closely with Kerry about promoting the BTC event in Edinburgh in 2005 and would welcome your feedback on this request for feedback for the Heroes, Upstarts and Heretics theme.
"As part of my research to build Modo Fac Central into a wholesome and positive organisation, I attended the *Be the Change* conference held in London in May 2004. There I met Chris Cooke. Following various discussions with him we are bringing *Be the Change* to Edinburgh in May 2005. This will be a 3-day conference, including the May lectures and workshops. It will incorporate the theme Heroes, Upstarts & Heretics.
As the event is to be held in Edinburgh it would be good to promote Scottish Heroes, Upstarts and Heretics especially after finding this little gem on the Internet:
"Scotland is renowned the world over for the friendliness of its people and the warmth of its welcome. A reputation that we Scots modestly agree with (well, why not?). However, we also admit to being an unruly bunch that over the course of history has caused numerous battles, not to mention the odd war. Not only were we prepared to take on all comers, we were quite happy to have regular 'punch ups' amongst ourselves."
However, I feel, it would also be good to include those who have made a difference in the world and live the *Be the Change* concept despite everybody telling them "this is not the way to do it." Recently, Senscot published an article by Ernesto Sirolli called Passion, entrepreneurship and the rebirth of local economies. The small extract below harnesses the energy and the concept of being the change, which I hope, will help others see how they can take charge of their lives again.
"Ernesto Sirolli teaches people and communities a bottom-up, responsive economic development approach called Enterprise Facilitation. At the WSU/Kellogg Holistic Management project's third annual statewide meeting in Spokane in February 1999, he gave the keynote speech from which the following has been excerpted.
I understood, age 21, what kind of idiots we were. How can you make a plan in Rome, and try to implement the plan in Zambia? When we study agriculture, nobody ever tells us, watch for the hippos, because we don't have hippos in Italy! But if you think for a moment that there is a great difference between doing a plan in Zambia and implementing the plan in Chirundu, and doing a plan for rural development in Washington D.C. and implementing the plan in Washington state--you're wrong!
And so I left Italy, I left my agency. Initially I went to Africa, to Stellenbosch University in Cape Province, and then I went to Australia. And I researched anything that was a caring, intelligent way of helping people help themselves. And I came up with the most radical thing. I could not find anything as radical as what I've done.
I decided that I would go in a community without bringing any ideas, any resources, and I would become available in that community to one person who has a dream--a dream for self-improvement, a dream for independence, a dream to be able to feed her family. And the only thing I would do when I found this passionate individual--I would become available to that person, one to one, for as long as it takes, for free and in total confidentiality, to help that person go from this dream to create a sustainable livelihood. And it will take me whatever time--three months, four months, five months--for this one person."
I'm sure you will agree that Ernesto Sirolli is an awe-inspiring individual and I personally believe he is a Hero, Upstart and Heretic all rolled into one."
I would like to ask for your help in nominating Heroes, Upstarts and Heretics from the past and the present. I'd also like you to nominate candidates for people you know to be the Heroes, Upstarts and Heretics of the future.
Thank you
Maggie

World Leaders: Statesmen and Implementers
Our world of post-WW2 era have seen many statesmen but none could wield power to influence world politics except a failed effort of Franklin D. Roosevelt who convinced Winston S. Churchill to accept the principle of the emancipation of the colonized, exploited peoples of the world, much as Lincoln had done in the preceding century in the Civil War:
"Each people will have the right to freely choose its own government and to obtain the independence of its territory; each will also have the right of access, on an equal footing, to the sources of raw materials and must participate in a collective effort, in aid to countries still under developed."
Thus in a distant bay in the North Atlantic, Roosevelt tried put an end to centuries of imperialism and colonialism. Roosevelt was delighted with the Charter, although he was unaware that Churchill had not the slightest intention of "presiding over the demise of the British Empire."
The leaders consequently catapulted to power of consequence, however, chose to remain implementer of the agenda reflected in The Sykes-Picot Agreement (1916) Balfour Declaration (1917) and Atlantic Charter (1945) and thus majority of the world population was denied what the American torch-bearer of liberty and freedom dreamed for the humanity and continue living a life of misery and misfortune!
"There is a tide in the affairs of men,
Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune;
Omitted, all the voyage of their life
Is bound in shallows and in miseries."
--William Shakespeare, Julius Caesar (1599)
The world today stands at the crossroads of history when truth is suppressed by economic and technological means.
It is very interesting to note what Kerry, the contender to be the most powerful man on earth, says he would put Osama bin Laden on trial in U.S. courts rather than an international tribunal to ensure the "fastest, surest route" to a murder conviction if the terrorist mastermind is captured while he is president. Sure, OBL deserves to die if proved guilty of the alleged crimes, but
How come that Al-Qaidas # 3 with 600 other down the line is in USA captivity for the last 3 years; none of them so far has been proved guilty in a USA court of law and punished, then how Kerry is so sure that USA justice system is the only fastest route?
Does he not sound infringing on USA courts right when he says ..surest route to a murder conviction if the terrorist mastermind is captured, while crime of the fugitive is yet to be proved as a criminal in a court of law?
Does the USA justice system approve punishment without hearing the accused?
Is the USA, the sole superpower on earth, so weak not to disclose the facts on terrorists for a fear of backlash?
Interesting, OBLs did mentioned in his first speech broadcast by Al-Jazeera that hence fore it is the USA who has to live under fear. Does that mean the USA top leadership must be in a tacit league with OBL?
Is OBL an superhuman? Why he has not been captured or killed by the most modern armies of the world who, apparently, are in his constant chase for the last 3 years?
What the USA public is getting in return of the colossal expense out of the taxpayers money and loss of lives in the make-believe war on terrorism that is never sure of results?
How come that the network of a disgruntled fugitive expands like amoeba despite his opponents full and unchallenged access to the best media of this age? Is that due to injustice that the leadership of Implementors in the world is perpetuating on majority of the world population?
After all it were the USA governments and its close allies who recruited, trained and facilitated OBL to grow larger than his status and helped established and recognized Talibans' goverment in Afghanistan.(Ahmed Rashid (2000), pp 128-140) while USA remain complacent and supportive.
Perhaps USA leadership want to terrorize the world so that no one should question smooth implementation of the Agenda beyond The Sykes-Picot Agreement (1916) Balfour Declaration (1917) and so that Atlantic Charter (1945) is never implemented and majority of the world population remain poor, enslaved in remote-controlled colonies.
In any case the world expect of Kerry to rise to the occasion like a statesman and not another implementer. He himself had been to war for quite a long time and subsequently has been a champion of No War.
Kerry, however, does have symptoms of a statesman and deserve a chance to prove his claim by allowing him four years in the White House.
Perhaps, at least he will learn from Churchill and not preside over demise of the world that is moving towards eco-collapse through The Consequence of Failure made possible by the Implementers over recent 59 years of the world history.
