LYNNE TWIST'S SESSION

Whilst I am always delighted to discuss all nominations, for years one global charity seems to have earned the love and respect of those who know it at a different level of operating capability - the hunger project www.thp.org . So when I saw that the speaker list of BeTheChange included Lynne Twist, for nearly a quarter of the century THPs leader, I was expecting an extraordinary session. I didnt expect an ability to make more people cry, and search their souls, than any other speaker I have witnessed. And I most definitely didnt expect that she would achieve that in two different sessions, both of enormous human compass.

I dont want to repeat the stories that stirred that for us , because you should witness them yourself first hand, or as another possibility buy Lynnes book The Soul of Money.

Before listening to Lynne, I had never previously begun to think of all the ways that money imprisons all of us, who are in the earths well-off quartile, in our most negative fears. This is ironical as I am just completing a book which argues many big organisations will never achieve greatness unless they introduce a second measurement system that concentrates on progressing goodwill and trust-flow with the same intensity that they currently measure backward profits and cash-flow. Yes we need blood to live but unless someones a vampire I dont recommend counting up blood as the purpose of life. And there is no stakeholder role that I wish to have with any organisation that is not able to answer the question: what your world of stakeholder uniquely miss if you did not exist? A passion for context is everything to an organisations goodwill mapped as its quality of human relationships which systemically provides permissions to lead as well as representing well over 75% of the worth of any organisation. Its costing the world a lot of desperate misfortunes that neither accountants nor economists see fit to get out of their zero-sum straitjackets. And Lynnes fables add indelibly to those I had collated as neighbouring trust-flow. Intriguing how Lynne learnt from a lady in Harlem the system-flow metaphor : Money is like water. It is a current, carrier, conduit for our intentions. Money carries the imprimatur of our soul.

Let me focus us on the biggest of the principles which Lynne shared with us. (And remembering that Lynne explained this to us in about 10 different ways, if you are reading it for the first time and want to help us relive all its interpretations , please do)

SUFFICIENCY : THE SURPRISING TRUTH

When you let go of trying to get more of what you dont really need, it frees up oceans of energy to make a difference with what you have. When you make a difference with what you have, it expands.
